Hehe, Belgium & the Netherlands being together dates back from before 1830 (1815 - 1830 to be precise), when they were known as 'the United Kingdom of the Netherlands'. Then in 1830 Belgium separated from the Netherlands and has been independent ever since. Both countries (+ Luxembourg) are sometimes referred to as 'the lowlands' or the Benelux countries (named after the treaties that deeply bind these countries economically). Belgians officially speak both dutch, french & german (very small minority), where as 'the Dutch' (People from the Netherlands) speak only dutch. Anyway, back on topic  . |
