Units should be added as needed. Not just to add units.
Longer range Higher suppression machinegun. Needed? Yes. Useful? Yes. Problem? None!

Because a forum post should be like a woman's skirt. Long enough to cover the subject material, but short enough to keep things interesting.

How is it needed? It isn't. Allies are fine as is.

It is cool. Therefore needed. Gives a new heavier MG to the Allied forces to compete with the fear of the MG42. Its main attraction, higher suppression and longer range. Exactly the two the 30 cal is 'lacking'

Allies don't need it, they have BARs. The best infantry weapon in the game.
You know what else is cool? Laser using jetpack stormtroopers. Guess what, not needed.
Oh, or on a more normal note. How about Stormtroopers with the option to get Dual LMG instead of MP44s.
And obviously, we need a new Axis TD that can outperform M10's right?

Sure they do need it! It is a heavier MG after all
makes things awsome and more variety. No more boring .30 cal and BARs but a Strong .50 Cal heavy Machinegun ON FOOT instead of tied to a vehicle.
I wouldn't mind that JagdPanzer would be non-reward unit. It'd perform as good as M10 in TD Role as it outperforms StuG.

I'd kill for a US MG that actually suppresses... why do we need another MG that does damage?

quit with the mirror units. I'd rather have a .50 cal that does more damage than a .50 cal that does more suppression.
or maybe we can get a maxon quad mount on a trailer.

Americans have least # of units.
Doesn't hurt to have another reward.
Not like axis need Pz2, elite grens, ect. lol, but its fine to have them as a reward.

I don't think we needed a PaK40 tbh.
We could add a .50 that acts like a Flakvierling if you want, set it up and thats it. No moving.
EIRR should still strip out all the addon units and rebalance the game though. Right now its crap.

If a unit is balanced why not add it? More versatility = better gameplay and more interesting strategies and ways to play the game.

Not really.
I mean, they could always add identical units with different skins if it makes you feel better. Maintaining distinction is what makes RTS games fun, otherwise we'd just mirror each side and the only difference would be skins.

It seems very distinctive to me. No other faction has a HMG like this one.
For example it could be made to have lower suppress, higher damage, longer but narrow range, slow rate of fire and work well against lightly armored vehicles and cost twice as much as the 30. Cal making it very distinctive from any other HMG in the game.

Soo.....like the PaK36, Ostwind, Flakvierling, Quad, etc?
Well shit son! Lets just toss the PaK 43 in as well, you can make it cost more, but since its an 88 on a gun carriage it should have 100 range! No other ATG is like this!! It should totally go in.
What about my Sturmtiger!? I mean as long as we are just tossing in units for "cool" factor, we should get Elefants and shit too right? And the Black Prince, ooh ooh, and some sort of crazy American Prototype tanks!1
Just because units can go in, and be balanced, does not mean they should.
Hell, you could put in a squad of Nazi Zombie troopers that are almost impossible to kill other than with a sniper or tank and make it balanced. That's not the point.
Gameplay in EIRR has done nothing but suffer as more and more random, unneeded units are added. It's MORE boring to play currently than it has been at any point in the past.

I disagree, units such as the Sherman Jumbo added a lot of depth to the game.
The example I gave was very simple, I just gave it positive and negative properties so it can be distinctive, it doesn't really suit a HMG. PaK36, Ostwind, Flakvierling, Quad however are still not close to a HMG.

What did it add besides something that lets you eat up fuel in an optimal way in your Infantry company?
Oh, that's right, it removed the need to ever use the 75mm or 76mm in an Infantry company! Cool, lots of depth added.

A Quad is literally 4 .50 cal on a Halftrack....how is that not even close to an HMG? It's 4 HMGs.

In reality yes, in the game however it is more relative to a puma armored car.

No, people still used those units but more often shermans were replaced by m10s.
