Yes, I agree that the government is out of control and the more I look at it, the more I see a renewed revolution to bring us back in line. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants" Thomas Jefferson.

or maybe just not have such a convoluted way of voting. Who knows, maybe being able to actually vote for the man on top instead of voting for people who MIGHT vote for the guy you want but don't actually have to might be better

Also from Wikipedia: “Libya enjoys large natural resources, which Gadhafi utilized to help develop the country. Under Gadhafi’s Jamahiriya direct democracy regime, the country’s literacy rate rose from 10 percent to 90 percent, life expectancy rose from 57 to 77 years, equal rights were established for women and Black people, employment opportunities were established for migrant workers, and welfare systems were introduced that allowed access to free education, free healthcare, and financial assistance for housing. The Great Manmade River was also built to allow free access to fresh water across large parts of the country. In addition, financial support was provided for university scholarships and employment programs.”
Still from Wikipedia: “The Economy of Libya was centrally planned and followed Gadhafi’s socialist ideals. It benefited greatly from revenues from the petroleum sector, which contributed most export earnings and 30 percent of its GDP. These oil revenues, combined with a small population and by far Africa’s highest Education Index gave Libya the highest nominal GDP per capita in Africa. Between 2000 and 2011, Libya recorded favorable growth rates with an estimated 10.6 percent growth of GDP in 2010, the highest of any state in Africa. Gadhafi had promised “a home for all Libyans” and during his rule, new residential areas rose in empty Saharan regions. Entire populations living in mud-brick caravan towns were moved into modern homes with running water, electricity, and satellite TV.”

For the great place you're describing, I wouldn't quite understand why those very people would revolt.
Going to check that wikipedia article for references, might need to do some editing.

why you think USA went against Libya,to free people of tirran Gadaffi?! Yea right, they went in cuz of OIL,and gold...
Same reason why they went in Iraq,OIL! Not some shit they feed you in media...
of course anyone with IQ not of a gold fish can do 2+2=4 and not 5,make some research ,and find some facts that are usually hidden in media, because they cant just say,we will invade this country because we want their oil
There will always be those who are not satisfied, underpaid etc. send in some people, make people more dissatisfied and create critical mass...
Before the USNATO and “rebels” began their murderous and destructive military attacks, people in Libya had the highest gross domestic product (GDP) at purchasing power parity (PPP) per capita of all of Africa. The government took care to ensure that everyone in the country shared in the wealth. Libya had the highest Human Development Index of any country on the continent. In Libya, a lower percentage of people lived below the poverty line than in The Netherlands….Libya ranked 61st, with a lower incarceration rate than Czech republic. It had the lowest infant mortality rate of all of Africa. Libya had the highest life expectancy of all of Africa, less than 5% of the population was undernourished, In response to the rising food prices around the world, the government of Libya abolished all taxes on food. (Taken from “World Cheers as the CIA Plunges Libya into Chaos” by David Rothscum, Axis of Logic, 2/27/11)
Before the current USNATO military invasion, Libya was pumping one million 800 thousand barrels a day of excellent quality light oil, along with abundant deposits of natural gas. Such riches—because shared with the Libyan people–allowed Libya to reach life expectancy that is almost at 75 years of age and the highest per capita income in Africa. In December 1951, Libya became the first African country to attain its independence after WWII. Its harsh desert is located over an enormous lake of fossil waters, equivalent to more than three times the land area of Cuba; this has made it possible to construct a broad network of pipelines of fresh water that stretch from one end of the country to the other. (Taken from “Does NATO Plan To Occupy Libya?” by Fidel Castro, 2/22/11)
The HDI (Human Development Index) is measured by UN officials. These data indicate, for example, that Libya had in 1970, a situation a little worse than Brazil (HDI of 0.541, against 0.551 of Brazil.) The Libyan index surpassed the Brazilian years later, and in 2008 was well ahead: 0.810 (ranked 43rd), compared to 0.764 for Brazil (ranking 59th). All three sub-indices that comprise the HDI are higher in Libya: income, longevity and education. Libya is the country with the highest HDI in Africa. Therefore, the best distribution of income and health care and public education—the last two are free. And almost 10% of Libyan students receive scholarships to study in foreign countries. In his “Green Book” Gadhafi wrote that workers should be politically involved and self-employed, and that the land belongs to those who work it and the house to those who reside there. And power shall be exercised by the people directly, without intermediaries, without politicians, through popular congresses and committees, where the whole population decides the fundamental issues of the district, city and country…real democracy, not capitalist “representative” democracy that works for those who have the most and ignores those who have little. (Taken from “Who Is Muammar Gaddafi?” by Antonio Cesar Oliveira)
The 2010 UN Human Development Index, a composite measure of health, education and income ranked Libya first in Africa. None of the other countries in Africa has a more secular government than Libya. None of the others has a human-rights record better than that of Libya, however imperfect that may be — in Egypt a government fact-finding mission has announced that during the recent uprising at least 846 protesters were killed as police forces shot them in the head and chest with live ammunition. Fifteen days before the NATO No-Fly Zone resolution was approved, the UN Human Rights Council had been readying a report praising Libya for its human rights record, citing improved educational opportunities, a revised consititutional framework, making human rights a priority, and increasing legal protections for citizens. (Taken from “The Anti-Empire Report,” William Blum, May 2, 2011)
You are free to check facts from here, and prove that they are wrong.

Same reason why they went in Iraq,OIL!
The US already controlled Iraqs oil, most of the shit went down AFTER the US blockaded Iraq.
The US went into Iraq because the man they installed as dictator (Saddam) stopped being the puppet they wanted him to be so became an embarrassment.
Besides i think its less then 5% of the US total oil import comes from Iraq (not 100% sure though)

Actually it was more whos currency ruled the oil trade if at all to do with oil, this is a bit of a crude version, but close enough
http://www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Iraq/Iraq_dollar_vs_euro.html
But the US doesnt really need Iraqi oil, especially with the yearly improvements to the Canadian Oil Sands granting increased exports the US at less of a cost to transport

We have all read the press releases claiming a humanitarian crisis where Ghaddafi was "slaughtering" thousands of his own people, bombarding his own cities with bombs and artillery...
Interestingly, the Russian government, in a recent interview on a British TV channel denied that any of this was happening. The Russians claim they've been monitoring Libyan space ever since the first signs of trouble, and claimed they have pored over all their satellite photos but have found none of what the US claims to have happened. Specifically, Russia says there is "no evidence whatever" of any damage to the cities Ghaddafi was accused of shelling, no evidence of warfare in those areas, no evidence of reams of bodies anywhere. In fact, almost nothing.
Unfortunately, none of this information was carried by the Western media who have their own agenda coming from the White House and US military. In case you don't know, this isn't the first time that Russia has provided all its satellite photos to the Western media to counter false claims made by the US government propaganda machine - and in every case, the Western media studiously avoided publishing any of the factual information.
Once again, with Libya, just as with Iraq and Iran, it appears that most of what we've been told is a lie. Just like the WMDs in Iraq; totally fabricated stories intended to demonise someone in preparation for yet another "regime change."

For the great place you're describing, I wouldn't quite understand why those very people would revolt.
And there is more. The "rebels" that are fighting against Libyan forces are not the Libyan people who want to be "free". Most of them are mercenaries - al Qaida, in fact - offered freedom by the US from their prisons in Iraq and Afghanistan, then sent to Libya as mercenary soldiers. They are almost surely being paid directly or indirectly by the US government.
Here's a link (
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8407047/Libyan-rebel-commander-admits-his-fighters-have-al-Qaeda-links.html
) to an article in the UK Telegraph where a Mr. Abdel-Hakim al-Hasidi, the Libyan rebel leader, admitted that he had recruited al-qaeda members to fignt the US in Iraq and was now doing the same in Libya. US and British government sources said Mr al-Hasidi was a member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG).
The US military's West Point academy has said the two share an "increasingly co-operative relationship". In 2007, documents captured by allied forces from the town of Sinjar, showed LIFG members made up the second-largest cohort of foreign fighters in Iraq, after Saudi Arabia.
So the US, with its (generally assumed) at least 50,000 prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan, is offering these (probably mostly innocent) prisoners freedom and amnesty, provided they agree to be transported to Libya and wage a ground war in lieu of US troops. But the media spin has this all as native Libyan 'freedom fighters'.
There is little real evidence that any of the fighting in Libya today actually involves an uprising from among the civilian population, and in fact a large portion of that population supports their leader. I know you don't want to hear that, but it's true.
