1.0 base short range penetration does NOT mean you penetrate everything all of the time... It just means you do not have a modifier to the pen given by the target tables.
I mean, garands have 1.0 base penetration at all ranges. Doesn't mean they penetrate KTs at long range every shot.

Id always pick penetration over speed,
especially if the penetration is 1.0 up close (KT bah-bye :3)
that may be true but the really improvement the m18 has is its increased sight (the speed and (de)-acceleration are just little things) im pretty sure almost no one would take it with sight of normal tanks the sight is the main ability to make a good use out of it using propper micro |

So what shots can it ignore then? Most of the time I find my self always penetrating KT's if my m10s at point blank range towards it, So I think "hey maybe this is how it works!" Never said I wasnt wrong  |

Only a 40% base chance of penetrating panthers...
60% base penetrating StuGs...
55% base penetrating Tigers...
44% base penetrating the KT...
60% base vs Hetzers
42.47% base vs the Jag.
(meaning those are the pen values at short range)

interesting fact. the m-18 is an excellent duo for a sniper as it has good accuracy vs bike armor. i've had one take out 3 in a row going after a sniper. (.66 vs .33 for m10)
M-18 also has no windup, so you're going to get off your shots a tick quicker.

m-10 has .3 acc vs bikes, m-18 .6 & .6 moving so it may not hit everytime but with its 46 sight plus better acc vs bikes than the m-10 and being able to rape scout cars, its a good compliment. Not great, but it is good. and my story about killing 3 in a row? it happened. surprised the heck out of me, i only expected 1 to die, pissed the other player off. and yes m-18 has no wind up. it has a 1.5 ready aim time, and a 1.0 wind down time, thats it. I just like the M18 more than the M10, it "Feels" better and overall they are very similar tanks.
I think how a unit feels is quite important, regardless of effectiveness...

using mgs vs flaks is generally a very bad idea since the flak has 100% basic accuracy vs. teamweapon if you think "damn flak killing my inf" imagine it being twice up to fourth as strong (accurate) vs. support weapons |

Agreed, m18 has the speed to help you get to the rear armor, if you aren't able to get around to the rear armor, you can ambush and hope for a penetrating shot, or use the huge sight to hit and run. plus imo hawkins mines are great way to spend 15 mu you have laying around. the m10 on the other hand is slower with less sight, but you have a higher chance of killing what ever you engage, not to mention seems like 1/4 times a m10 gets OOC it will still manage to get a shot off or two  I have an epic story of an OOC m10 circling around a tiger and shooting the thing about 4 times killing it when it was at nearly half health. |
