so in the end, they will only capture innocent civilians, while true terrorists sure as hell wont tweet on their wall one to another,'tomorrow we go to blow white house' ...people like that work in cells and use code names for things,or else they would all be captured by now,doh...anyone who has at least even a tiny bit of brain, and is planing a terrorist event sure as hell wont tweet it or make facebook group so him and his fellow terrorists can discuss it over fb...

it wasn't even all that serious, they overracted but I can understand on one principle that they show they take all threats seriously. I'm sure some things slip by but they're looking.
the thing is, 9/11 was right in our faces and we ignored it, they never want it to happen again.

Dafuq man, don't ask for proof if you'll refuse it if it's not in your favor, logic fallacy for the bloody win.

It's fucking stupid because it MEANS THE SAME THING IN THE US!
You know how many fb posts me or my friends have put up that have said "going to get destroyed tonight, we are going to wreck this place, this bar is going to burn tonight, going to get so smashed that we desecrate a church!"
it's totally dumb, i mean really, dig up miss monroe? are you fucking kidding me? what dig up her body and put a road side bomb in her? really what did they expect?
but i do think i have to agree with groundfire. it might just be they were super unlucky and the government simply wanted to make an example of them that pretty much says, dont post something like this on your way into the US because this is what will happen.

its totally different if you're a citizen saying that but a person coming from a country that has known terrorists that are unfriendly against an ally of yours, you take notice.
for those who dont know. Ireland has terrorists who terrorize Britain, who is an ally of the united states.
do u know how many terrorists who can't hit the country they want, go after a country friendly to them? Happens all the time!

A more mundane point is why anyone would make jokes like that. It has no value and a clear risk.
Really? Since when is freedom of expression something to arrest someone over? But anyway, the US went down the toilet in terms of personal freedoms a LONG time ago. (Ironic if you consider the fact that Americans think so highly of freedom in the first place) The war of terror is just utter nonsense, since terrorism in the 21th century is not more 'severe' than it has ever been in the 20th or 19th century. Just a bogus reason to invade Iraq and extend the arm of American reign over many more places in the world. (That being said, I do not believe 9/11 was a government conspiracy, that's retarded, I only believe the government abused 9/11 to cut on personal liberties and drive a unilateral foreign policy)

Freedom of expression? What a bunch of crap. Pretending to be terrorist even for fun is less of expression and in the case of meaningful security activity, more of a a willful obstruction. There needs to be a balance between the gains of exercising a right and the opposite, and obstructing comedy should not be overly problematic a sacrifice. The price to don't do it is close to nothing for the comedian, while surveillance have to evaluate any threat even how dumb it may seem. Imagine the shittiness of the job, having to sift through all that garbage that may or not be a threat.

I find it interesting to see how the new abstract meanings of phrases collide with the modern society.
As for this case, i think it was just the americans showing off their security measures, as cautionary tale to warn everybody.

I'm glad you understand this...
It also means I am free to think nazi's are awesome if I would so choose, and I would be in my right doing so...
Would also make me someone people would want nothing to do with, but hey, that would be the price of said freedom.

Is this even a question? That's exactly why a right to freedom of expression exists in democratic societies, and is only limited by extreme necessity.
You think freedom of expression exists because government, any government, cares about innocuous, safe conversation?
(I would have put something here about the vast majority of trolling being POV, but it would have been far too easy to come out wrong)

"Freedom of solely political expression" doesn't appear in any constitution I know of. Not that almost all expression can be construed in a political manner, but expression is definitely broader than politics.

but the thing is, yes you may have the freedom to say whatever the heck you want but at the same time you have to understand that something you may say may get your face smashed in, killed or cause you to be arrested.
Just because you CAN say it, doesnt' mean you SHOULD and it seems a lot of dipshits have trouble separating the two, like the idiot arrested in the story.
I'm sorry but if it was me I'd have said "ok, i wont say that again" not get all pissy about saying what i want to say how i want to say it, when i want to say it.
Its that attitude that has given us a bunch of spoiled minded, bratty idiots who think they can say and do things they want with no consequence and then get mad when they break the law

...and this thread kids, very nicely demonstrate 2 sorts of people - people who dont mind be slaves if they are locked with even slight feeling of safety and people who realize that nothing is guaranteed and rather not give up their freedom and common sense for bullshit assurances.
Actually - don't forget the 3rd type of people. The ones that complain about all the rules, who say their rights are being violated and want total freedom: but then QQ all day long when something goes wrong and say "you should have done something to prevent it"
Quote from: Unkn0wn on January 31, 2012, 11:19:19 am
But anyway, the US went down the toilet in terms of personal freedoms a LONG time ago.
Most of Europe lost it's freedom years ago when the Germans steam rolled your ass. Then those Americans you love to hate so much came and saved your asses.
Exactly what freedoms have the Americans lost?
Let's see:
- You can't yell bomb in an airport
- You can't tweet you are going to destroy america if you are coming from another country
- You can't pirate music and software on the internet.
I am sure there are more - but seriously WTF. Your life is restricted and awful because of a few rules? You have lost all your freedom and live in a terrible country because of this?
You live a pretty shallow life and have no respect for the people around you if you think this is taking all your freedoms.
Perhaps you would like all those freedom restricting rules removed. You know, like that really restricting rule that says I can't rape your mom. What kind of bullshit is that. I should be able to fuck who ever I want when ever I want. Who gives you or the Americans the right to restrict my freedoms.

Perhaps expand it to artistic expression, but I'm fairly sure you see my point about this and are just trolling for replies. There's a core value to be defended, and then there's all kinds of jazz you can pile upon it who may or may not be independently valuable, but definitely of LESS importance.
Censorship and supressing expressin' primarily is important to govern because without it governments could subdude political criticism. Sure, it may not say so in the explicit constitution, but what is more important this when it comes to what freedom of expression is supposed to be "all about"?
Since political discourse and disagreeing is central to the democratic ruling form, the right to express must also be said to be a pillar of democratic society. I need only point to china, and whether or not political expression is the most important form of expression seems crystal clear.
