Started playing today and its a pretty good game, but I do wish that they kept the old scatter from guns like in the old games.

It's good, but it's not overly worthy of praise. Classic difficulty gives aliens artificial bonuses of accuracy and critchance making cover a lot less meaningful. I'm also horrified by the lack of scatter, the lack of ability stats for your soldiers, the "random soldier recruiting", you can only bring 6, and you can only have 1 grenade wtf?

They also dumbed down the equipping of your interceptors, the spreading of your research.. lots of other things.

Overall, decent. Played it for 10 hours today, it is fun but it took me 50~ reloads to capture the outsider because of a combination of lame things. Pretty mad

I guess that's good, but I was SCREAMING and cursing at my computer every time a perfect "capture" strategy didn't work.

Feels like they compromised w/ a budget and time just slightly too much.

EDIT1000:

Also the PANIC system is seriously flawed. I have 4 veterans in my team, and 1 rookie dies as bait - guess waht happens? 3/4 of them panic.. talk about elite soldiers  Roll Eyes

I would of enjoyed a co-op option for it, and more equipment and variation of items and customization. But it's still going strong in my books, on my second play through went with classic difficulty this time. Fuck me sideways is it hard....

EDIT:

Did first terror mission, forgot to equip shotguns. Got rolled by zombies and chrysalids. 3 out of 6 men made it out. My medic, my heavy and my sniper. So many men have died. They are my only remaining men, i don't have enough money to recruit more till council. Can't sell anything either. Just unlocked foundry. Massed shivs, here i come!

Moving through Classic Ironman, most of my squad is Cpt or higher at this point, using lasers and carapace. Just about to unlock plasma and Titan armor...if I can hold the nations together till this month ends.

My team is lead by a strong breaching team of 3 Assaults, equipped for medium range combat and their faithful Support, who's importance to keeping them from getting hit in the first place is invaluable. Smoke with extra defense is like mobile hard cover.

Like always, I have a sniper covering my squad, and my heavy somewhere between the two.

Love this game. Can't wait to beat Classic Ironman and move on to Impossible.

Did you expect an immediately useful preorder?

Why do you think he expected the preorder to be useful?

The officer is considerably better than a riflemen squad at carrying weapons. Officers have good accuracy so they will hit most targets.

Because he called it useless, implying he expected some form of use out of it.

Still on my Ironman Classic playthough.

Plasma tech unlocked, Titan armor unlocked, world doing ok. About to throw down a Nexus which should let me put up the 6 or so Satellites I have sitting around. Once that is up and I finish upgrading my Interceptors with Plasma Cannons I should have Earth pretty secure.

Yeah, the thing about the harder difficulties is if you can tough it out until after the first base assault mission and stabilize it, it gets easier, given you kept a colonel or two alive for the run.

I found that as soon as I had SCOPEs and Lasers it got pretty straight forward. Move up, cover areas, use a couple assaults to pull enemies to the killing ground. Nuke them.

I'm sitting on 2-3 Colonels, a couple Majors and some Captai

I have to say, I hate turn based strategy, but I totally see myself getting this after a price drop.
