And it is disappointing, following the trend started by Dragon Age, this will be another watered down POS that will barely be representative of the masterwork that we once knew.

On the plus side, while the golden age of big name games is quickly dieing, Indy games are reaffirming my faith in gaming as a whole.

It's not a complete write-off yet, but the removal of the time-units system (which I had previously only heard a little about) sounds somewhat disturbing. Altogether though, if they manage to capture even the atmosphere and macromanagement of the original it will still be a masterpiece.

It will probably still be good, and the company will bring some of its own ideas to the table. If these are interesting and present new challenges to the "genre", the changes will be overshadowed by these. If they are crappy superficial changes and they screwed up the good parts, ofc people will notice that more than anything else.

But still a little early to write it off. Spiritual successors are hard to do, I bet its not easy to get a team of hardcore old-xcom fans to make a commercial remake entirely true

I already knew about the removal of TU's from their initial trailer. Honestly that doesn't bother me too much, they just took the actions you would have done and split them into 2 options. Move or Attack.

I'm interested how Base defense will work and it it's going to be truly random like the original. Also They've said alot about the 4-man team and I'm hoping that isn't the maximum available in a tactical battle. I liked in X-com that sometimes you had 10 guys deployed in all of them were in the shit firing their TU's off every turn and you knew that not everyone was taking the Avenger back alive.

I'm gonna wait and follow. I'll probably drop money on it so they know someone likes the genre. I'm hoping it's not as bad as the JA remake turned out to be.(Of course that was bad because they removed everything that made it good)

The article criticizes the graphics. Personally I'll play the ugliest fucking game in the world if it's a great game(Hence why I STILL play X-Com)

you want the old game?  buy it on steam.

I still play X-com, and it was very basic in many ways.... so i look forward toward some improvements.

We shall see,

Puddin' spamtm is soulcrushing... what's hard to understand about that?

I own  it on steam.

I own it not on steam.

Is it too much to ask for X-com expanded not X-com for the simpleminded?

I hope they don't fuck this one up. So many good series get improved in some areas, but then the company decides to fuck up in others.

Starcraft 2 for instance improved in some areas, which some say isn't enough, yet atleast they didn't regress in others. Diablo 3 on the other hand added some great improvements to viable builds/ect, but they seem to have regressed in item design/randomization/ect.

i heard that the best way to beat ironman is to be very aggressive and no other way.

Opposite, you need to be cautious as losing one of your best guys early on can mean disaster.

TIG swears by overt aggression.

The tactic is sound if you're lucky enough to have at least 2 Assaults from the get go. It's also sound if you can take down every target in the round that you encounter them.

If you cannot, being aggressive leaves you in some nasty situations. Taking your time and finding the best map positions to take advantage off will pay off if the option to use aggression isn't available.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

On impossible ironman you will eventually come to a situation where you spot 3+ groups when you charge in with your assaults to take down 1 group.

And then you have to either abort or get wiped. So yeah easy does it and assaulting during the right moment. I find moving back and forth in general works well when you have spotted a goup.
