Size and ease of install, which of course leads to more maps being distributed and more people making them due to increase in demand.

Of course when that happens people that are tired of playing the same old maps start playing again, maybe encouraging friends to pick up the game to play particular maps and mods.

So yes, it can also increase their pocketbook as well as providing a reasonable medium for the modding community. Waiting for people to download 500mb of maps for a mod is fail.

- Easier to use (no -dev mode)

Ya agree with smithy, the whole tiny type thing is a pain in the ass.

So much so that I have basically been ignoring posts with them.

Add that there is a huge library of .sga custom maps currently available that would be lost of they abandoned .sgas.  Changing to .sgb would mean that players would have to manually unpack their .sgas (huge pain in the ass and casual players will fail) or more likely, we would just lose a ton of custom maps and mappers might leave the scene if their previous work was just abandoned by Relic.

Also just the community relations issue, which I'm sure Buggo can appreciate.  This decision makes relic look like lazy and incompetent.  It looks like they don't care about their mapping community, which is foolish because custom maps are usually THE reason for the longevity of an RTS game.

Has the list been delivered to Buggo yet?  Any news on this front, fldash?

You may all feel the same way, but I find it very VERY hard to believe that Relic would do this.

They have fantastic support, they make great games, they listen to everything the community says...

...except for that custom map thing.  Fuck wasting time on that!  Why would we fix SGAs when we can switch to a more confusing, less user-friendly, band-width chewing, monstrosity file type, and not do any work? I mean, come on!

Any new word on any of this?

Also any word on if some of the crazy WB bugs will be sorted out with 2.2?

Lastly I looked around, but I couldn't find i decent tutorial as to how to install .sgb (if we are stuck with them for a while), I don't feel versed enough to make one myself, and with EIR coming back shortly we probably need to get one up and readily accessible so everyone will be able to install custom maps.

Any takers?
