Some of the more rampant complaints the last month or so has been about elite infantry.

Either it's elite infantry underperforming (airborne) understandably so because of not having a proper doctrine, or it's rangers or stormies being OP.

I faintly remember storms and other inf at times having been 6 pop. Maybe this can all be reconsidered.

The only challenge I see is that elite infantry is not very properly balanced vs each other. For instance, mp44 storms and shrek storms might not warrant the same population cost.

What if EIR streamlined the infantry type systems, so that infantry either fall within a six pop or a five pop category?

Pop is a big deal on these units early game, and a increase in pop price to seven for the really heavy versions mightmake them more sparse and slow down their use and expenditure.

In my view pop is not toyed with enough in "EIRR balance", weirdly enough when you consider how effectively population controls the amount on the field players can have.

I'm thinking increases of +1 to the elite inf across the board could dent tactics which rely heavily on their use and promote more combined arms or at least slower, more careful use of elite infantry.

i agree, pop is not looked at much, i remember some time ago i made a huge post about doubling pop values across the board, then tweaking them, this was when jumbo shermans were talked about as being OP and made the switch from 12 pop to 13, and people wanted it at 14 almost.

But I think you raise a good point, this way people can still field as many of these units as they want, they just can't have as much support when they do it or have to think a bit more carefully.

Here's the thread.

Rangers ARE 6 pop, and they are 6 pop for a reason Wink Popping rangers and storms the same ammount of pop out of the gate is pretty unfair tbh.

RIP Panzer Elite.

In a sense increasing pop values of elite infantry is difficult because it is quite dependant on the upgrades which improve their general performance.

For instance. A 4x MP44 squad is not as effective as Double Schreck squad.

Zook rangers are not as effective as full kit rangers and so on, you get my point.

The overall effectiveness of a unit's performance has a lot to do with what sort of upgrades they have available to them. In a sense if you want to balance it through population upgrades you'd have to go and seperate all units into different cathegories done by their upgrades. I.E. AT Stormtroopers. Assault Stormtroopers.

In short balancing it through population is a double edged sword. Unit A can be better than Unit B while the two share same population which means Unit A brings more effectiveness with its pop than unit B and therefore B gets a unjustified nerf.

We do look at pop quite often when determining how cost effective a unit is. I think it's just pure ignorance on anyone's part to assume we havnt looked at a units pop and adjusted it when necessary.

i think more units need to go the way of the quad. HT is 3 pop, quad is 6, where before there would be no way to balance either unit.

make duel shreck storms 7 pop, dual mp44 and single schreck 6, and keep normal and 2x mp44 storms at 5. or something along those lines. you can do the same with rangers, normal rangers at 5, zooka rangers at 6, full package or thompsons at 7. though it would mean making tons of "new" units, and people still probably wouldn't be happy =P

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.
