So I have this local guy that has contacted me in regards to investing in an Airsoft game/company. Basically speaking, our area only has one place to play, so he wants to set up a new one.

Problem: I have no idea exactly what this game is or what it entails. More importantly, I need to know if this is actually popular. I assume it is mostly a young persons game, so I thought I would get your guys input on it.

Is this a newest up and coming thing that has potential, or is just a fad that will die a year from now. Is this just another way of saying paintball?

Appreciate your input.

Essentially it's paint ball without the mess.

It has been around for quite a while, and CAN be fairly popular depending upon the area.

They are looking at doing it in a heavily forested area - about 6 acres (2.5 Hectares) for now.

Are buildings a really important feature?

Airsoft has been around for a while, but in my area it definitely seems that paintballing is the king game.

In paintball over here, there are quite a few middle aged men who spend $600 on gear so they can get a tactical military experience on their weekends. They tend to spend big $ to go to the big paintball events. I can imagine it being close to the same for airsoft, but the only way you can tell is to get a real evaluation of the airsofting community that you have in your area. You may want to evaluate the paintball community too.

To the people who like to simulate taking over actual strategic assets, yeah.

If it's anything like running a paintball field (which I worked at for 6 years, owner was former accountant) it's got to be a labor of love cause you will never get a significant profit from a commercial operation unless you have no overhead, no liability and you can find some really cheap insurance.

Unless there's some drastic difference from the operation, i'm pretty sure it's a sink hole for money, but you would have to evaluate that for yourself. Most players just go and play in the woods or on private land.

yep, its epic for role games like free hostage and etc. or making few smaller building like checkpoints where are supplies (bullets, flashbangs and so on)

When I was younger I was in Airsoft too. A lot of my buddies bought them at least one wapeon and at some weekends we met each other at forest, formed two teams and had fun to shot on each other. At least some of my buddies where mad and sink a lot of money to buy automatic guns and other weird stuff.

Here in germany we have really restrictive rules to wapeons, airsoft/painball -guns but you could still find people who are playing this in certain areas. But I have no idea how common this is in your region, but I would guess that there are people playing it due to the laws.

Maybe you could read some law rulings about softair guns in your region to get a certain feeling about your target audience to estimate the potential about your new buisness. It may help you to weigh if it's worthy to invest in this buisness branch. Overall you can say how older your audience gets they do it more professionell and will invest more money in softair equipment.

The local guy who contacted you - What does his company do? Do they sell airsoft equipment? Do they rent equipment? Or do they provide a area where
people can play "airsoft" for a certain time? (Do they organize contentions?)

There is a lot stuff you could to make the investment worth it.

I have played both exstensively, but this is murica and not canada so we can't really say How Big it is accurately.

for objective's most games paintball/airsoft require building's. but im sure putting up sheet metal or a few planks of wood and then using a sharpie would suffice. The paitball/airsoft facility i used reused old trailer's and the such old silo's (was built near a farm).

imo, i would suggest against it but then again it is canada.

airsoft is paintball toned down. to women level's

Not tried either airsoft or paintball (On my ever growing to-do list) so I can't comment on most of what you said there.

However...

Also can get realistic looking guns.

Gotta disagree there. I've seen some incredibly bitching realistic paintball and airsoft guns alike.

Airsoft hurts more at close range (if someone is a meanie and goes full auto into you). Also, you get grenade launchers (basically a giant shotgun) and grenades. Also you don't get all messy from paint. Also can get realistic looking guns.

are you joking?. a frozen paintball will hurt way more than any plastick BB frozen or not. The fact that you have more mass being thrown at you alone  clearly paintball hurts more. you don't get messy from the paint where you throw clothes in the washer and go or just go to a cheaps ass retail shop and buy 1$ clothes. Airsoft you have to pick up 1000's of BB's way more annoying then throwing 3$ on goodwill clothes.

The more expensive Paintball rifles tend to get around the gas problem by having the canister slot into the stock.

Used to have a website chock full of them... Rap4! There we go: http://www.rap4uk.com/RAP4-METS-p/1682.htm

It'd set you back a hell of a pretty penny, but the thing even ejects casings lol.

That website has the works for military grade paintballing if you've got a deep wallet.

However, that said, Airsoft is something I'd consider as equally as Paintballing. Possibly even more so considering I wouldn't have to get in such a mess, and half decent looking weaponry doesn't cost the earth in comparison.

EDIT: For some god forsaken reason I put a URL as an IMG... Whoops.

I have played airsoft a lot, actually I belong to an Airsoft club we used to play every Saturday and Sunday in the south of Spain. My brother developed a company to create and manage airsoft events on weekends. I like much more Airsoft than paintball. Airsoft is much more accurate, guns are more realistic, you can fire each other much more far than in paintball and don't need to get all this disgusting paint everywhere.

I had a former Co-Worker who was really into Airsoft.

He claimed he hit a guy with an RPG(pellet filled bag) from point blank range(No primary weapon) while doing a match and that he was suspended from the group because he broke the guys ribs.

I don't put much stock in it, he was a compulsive liar.

However though; Simunition. I've seen that shit draw blood on most occasions. I love that shit. It really makes you not want to get shot. Ever.

Any sane and organized airsoft event will have all players chrone all their weapons, they will be told what minimum distance they must be from their target when they fire their weapon. If you break this rule you might get permabanned depending on how egregious your offense is.

There are some ridiculously powerful airsoft rifles out there, most customized but some out of the box. They can be dangerous when fired point-blank and they will make you bleed. But I wouldn't go so far as to say that they can break your ribs...

A mate's dad died from a heart attack after he was shot in the chest with frozen paint balls.
If this "rpg" airsoft rig shot something similar to say a riot beanbag round from a shot gun, I'd say broken ribs Arr a complete possibility.
