Just curious, but does anyone else think that mortar airburst is broken?

It is slightly silly, the whole "lets give the mortar more splash than howitzer rounds" thing.

Nope, Nikomas coded in the airburst mortar from scratch, having been given 0 direction on what it should actually be.

I assume he'll be fixing it for the next patch Tongue.

Holy Shit - the misinformation in this thread makes me want to puke.

Here's how the newest Rendition of AB was created.

First: The Back story. Nikomas is new to coding. For that reason, he does not have as much knowledge in the RGD's as our previous coder did. However, he has 10 times the personality, and 10 times the work ethic. The experience will come with time.

Second: Because of the inexperience, we were not able to code all the shit we really wanted to code because, frankly - we do not know how (yet). Some of the other things in Leo's draft were more horribly broken then mortar boost, so those got scraped as well.

Third: We took existing abilities already coded in the archives, plus some other stuff we could code and did our best to put together a combination. When I say we, I am referring to Eirrmod, Brn4meplz, Hicks, Nikomas, Groundfire, Unknown and other members of the BT.

So while some of you expect perfection at every turn, yet none of you can actually agree on WTF perfection is, a pretty damn good doctrine was created. Like every doctrine, it may need a tweak or two, but generally it is pretty good.

No doubt AB is good, probably too good.  But, from a design stand point hasn't one of the fundamental  distinctions, between wher and Americans at least, the difference in their mortars?  Just seems like a random thing to give AB when the prob had been in the pen of RRs (if i remember right).

In any case, any doc for AB is a positive step, and the tweaks may not be small ones, but ill let my betters argue that one out, its just on first glance and experience those airburst mortars are silly on top of AB across the board buff.

Okay so review for playing with the ab mortar.

It is on the op scale not so op that its going to win because somebody is packing 4 but op in as far as a small pop artillery piece goes.

yes maybe the projectile needs a looking into while it has like 1 minute cooldown or something it fires 4-5 shells in the span of a few seconds and it will Kill any support weapon within range. due to the drop speed and inbetween shots and spread of airburst this makes it harder to dodge.

But it is still a mortar and PE for once has a very viable counter Armored cards with overdrive thanks to phase armor or RRS phasing through AC they can easily swoop in kill and then leave.

Even a goliath or puma could easily take it out. with all the new artillery pieces the axis now(nebel, stukas wespe) its actually harder to keep alive since its a primary target.

you dont need to kill the mortar but the crew.

like i said it most likely needs some tweaks.

Yeah, as much as I'd like to blame Leo for it the Airburst is not because of him... On the other hand, it's a shame we all missed out on smoke launching shermans that DEBUFF enemy tanks and inf units in it's smoke, or phase armor quads or AB's without any fireup penalties... Man, that draft was funny. Anyway, It'll likely be looked over soon enough and if anything the large splash might have been an oversight on my end (I'm pretty sure I set it to around 8, not 12, but looks like I didn't).

If any excuse, if you look how much RGD shite was done last patch (over more than a month) some of the stuff I did well over a month or two ago sort of got lost along the way. As for most of the non-working T3's, well, that's SCAR and they'll be done when it gets done, I can't do SCAR*.

(not yet anyway)
