Ok I downloaded and installed it, and I have to say that so far I am impressed. The gameplay is a bit slow at first, there are 2-3 training missions that you have to complete before you are actually allowed into the world.
In a way its like EiR; but there is so much to this game that it is something you have to explore yourself I can only brush the surface with a brief description. You use a web browser to manage your city, your training, your crafting and your research. I dont know if this is real time research similar to Ikariam or if it uses some other sort of time table; since I have only actually spent about 30 minutes actually playing the game. You use what you do "offline" on the browser in the game when you load, it automatically links the two.
There is PvE, PvP, there are alliances called Covenants that you can join or make your own. I was thinking that if a group of us wanted to do it we can make our own EiR one. There is a option to purchase tribute (after all they have to make money somehow) but as far as I can tell that isn't necessary, just play in game and you will get what you need to craft, and build, just a bit slower than you would if you bought it. To craft things you have to find the recipe in game and use the materials you find in game to make items, also have to use the materials you find to build up your city (research).
I highly suggest that anyone that is a fan of RTS's (which should be all of you reading this since it brought us all together in this community) try out this game. Its free what do you have to lose. Once you download the setup file make sure you get the patch to patch it up to version 1.3.2 (I believe) which is a small patch that you can get from the same page you got the setup from. Ill post the link at the bottom of the post.

If I get shot and it's a gay medic fixing me up, he's not gonna be fondling my balls while he does it. You can't patch a chest wound and suck a cock at the same time.

Its not bad, but its not that great either. Its also very biased towards people who pay money, as they can essentially level up infinitely faster than anyone else, and also get advantages in pvp. It does seem like to get anywhere in this game you need to be part of a convergence so that you can get tribute and other loot.

I just joined a random one. No sense in trying to get one set up of just eir people when you need 6 minimum to even start one.

K, lets join the one that Puddin set up. Puddin make sure that you set it so that its open for recruiting, that way people can apply from the website. Ill join as soon as I can (probably tonight after I get home from work) we need to get other people too so that we can start doing the PvP thing and gaining territory. We get +10 tribute a day if we are holding 6 lands.
Anyone got any good advice yet on what to do at the start, Im still pissing in the wind trying to get things sorted.

so its a nickle and dime game .. free if you want to dedicate your life to meaninglessness , and actually expensive if you want to gain the goods?

eh, I wouldnt call it expensive, its like Navy Field, if you want to gain a advantage you pay a price for it, if you want to play the game normal and do it the harder way you can.
I do have to say though that at its current state, the crafting system is utter shit. It takes way to long to research anything and then if you want to craft something, the rare items you need to make it is super rare. That and the fact that dropped items are actually better than anything you can make right now. Not quite sure what the fuck the devs were thinking there, but supposedly there is some changes coming soon to it in the next hot fix, so we'll see.
