Basic Infantry: The americans and british are relegated to one non doctrinal mainline infantry squad each; the Riflemen squad and the Infantry Section (not sure on the community's view of sappers). The WM can field Volksgrenadiers, Grens, and KCH, and PE can choose between PGrens, Assault Grens, and Tankbusters (3 PG rifles are still decent AI).
In Blitzkried Mod, xcalibur made Rangers undoctrinal (albeit in limited numbers), which allowed units such as the 'Close Combat Squad', AB, the AB captain, Tank Hunter Squads, and Armored Infantry/Armored Riflemen available as each company's "elite" unlocked infantry. For the brits, Commandos were made available without a doctrine choice, although they were statistically inferior to Mando doc's commando squad.
My point being, eeeeeeeveryone complains at some point about riflespam or tommie spam; damn strait, both Allied factions dont have a say in the matter. Would making Rangers undoctrinal and re-introducing Assault Riflemen, as well as giving AB Rifles Fire-Up/AB armor, and adding an Armored Infantry/Armored Riflemen unit help ease the lack of choice among allied mainline infantry?
Vanilla Infantry: Seems like nowadays, the name of the game when it comes to infantry combat is "Who can field the greatest number of automatic weaponry". Can the community post some changes that might be made that would make automatic weapons upgrades a little more rare/subtle, so that EVERY squad didnt have to have a Bren, BAR, or LMG42?
In each case, why not offer two versions of each weapon to the squads that it effects: the original version with an additional 25-40 MU cost increase that would also grant the Suppressing Fire ability, and another version offering a single weapon (in the case of the Bren and BAR) that had an additional .1 or .05 accuracy at all ranges for the pure sake of a DPS boost, at a reduced cost (possibly a 20 MU reduction in each case?). This would include a slightly buffed LMG42; the SF ability could be tied to the dual LMG42 upgrade without a cost increase.
Stormtroopers: I'm looking at Myst somewhat on this one, as he and I both agree that dual-shrecked storms en-masse are batshit insane (and possibly broken). Thoughts?
Officers: IMO, the U.S. Command Squad could use a revertion to it's heroic armor and crits; I've had a couple of them get eaten by silly things such as 2 bikes or a half-manned volk squad since the removal of the heroic stats. (Thoughts on y/n?). The name is kinda meh (
), a rename would be easy to code;
Platoon Leader
Platoon Officer
Combat Officer
Company Commander
come to mind.
Trenches: Made available to Inf Doc with the 'Defensive Operations' unlock?
Snipers: At Vet3, can move without a speed penalty when cloaked?
Infantry Section(s): Need to be looked at, or at least the Lee-Enfield. NOBODY ever uses them, or at least wants to use them, without the Bren or Rifle nade upgrade; everyone that Ive talked with in the launcher has agreed with me in saying, or has said of their own accord, that the Lee-Enfield is utter shite and that they would take a basic infantry squad from any other faction over Tommies. Proposal would be increasing damage per shot from 7 to 10. This change would come in accordance to the changes to automatic weapons, as without a change to them, we'd have Tommie squads with dual brens and buffed Lee-Enfields raping everything in their path.
The Wehrmacht Panzer IV: After drumming my head over this for quite a while, I think I might have a solution to the griefing that's be voiced about the P4 being a bit on the expensive side, and lacking in effectiveness. Make a copy of the 75mm_stug weapon, and give it the penetration values and modifiers (edited to face allied units
) of the 76mm_sherman_upgun weapon, and the splash radius of the 75mm_panzer_4 weapon.
This is drawn
both from history (KwK L/42 that the P4 used had about the same ability of penetration as the 76mm cannon used by upgraded shermans)
and for the purposes of game balance (P4s regularly bounce shermans and bounce cromwells to a lesser, but still noticeable extent; the 76mm sherman cannon has more penetrating ability but wouldnt effortlessly rape every peice of allied armor on the field). Thoughts?
