I am seriously god awful with the pershing, my crocs do more work than my pershings end up doing most of the time. I'm doing it wrong. How do I do it right? Pretend like you're talking to someone who has never played CoH, this is how bad I am with it.

And will any of the advice I get transfer to other heavy tanks such at the Tiger or KT?

Get HVAP, don't duel with ATGs and always support your tank. Oh, and don't have to many high priority units. One guy I played with had 2 snipers, 2 pershings and 1 calliope. He lost every game.

As a long time Pershing player, the role of the Pershing depends entirely on your T4, or lack of it.

However, the only real game changing exception of how to use it comes about with HVAP. If your not using HVAP, your Pershing should always have an ATG following it around like a lost puppy.

This way, should your Pershing encounter a vehicle it is unable to handle itself, it's got a solid AT platform there to help it.

Rifles serve as good meat shields and deterrents when equipped with Stickies. Snipers can be used in conjunction with Pershings, but is risky due to the nature of both units being high cost... If you do opt for it, use your Sniper to pick off support teams while your Pershing makes any infantry that attempt to rush your Sniper chunky. If you can throw in an ATG too, the only thing you need worry about (Micro permitting) is indirect fire.

The Pershing is as good as it's support, but it's got the advantage of being able to move when it's in a pinch - For a tank of it's size and class it's pretty damned nippy.

Don't try to engage Panthers or Tigers by yourself without HVAP, it ends very badly. Half dead Panthers or Tigers that you catch by themselves however, are somewhat easy pickings.

As far as armour goes, anything Medium armour or below you will tear to pieces, and be able to keep up with it to continue tearing it to pieces. Tank Destroyers should be avoided like the plague unless you're pulling off some stupid heroic shit or you've found one by itself, in which case turret rotation and speed is good enough to circle strafe it well enough.

Look at the Pershing as less of your centre-piece, and more of the biggest damned support weapon you've ever had. On the Allies.

Urban Survival Kits grants you the ability to lol-rush paks and take them out with the pershing itself, btw. You can't do that with a regular pershing cost-effectively.

It does? Last time I checked USK only does -12% incoming damage, nothing for penetration...

If your referring to HE rounds, then that's a hell of a risky gambit - It's temper-mental as all hell.

i think myst is assuming you are vet 1 for the extra 15% damage reduction. Makes the pershing have more or less -25% damage reduction. Pretty significantly when facing anything really.

Just ask hicks to play with you and have him mentoring you, he may loose a lot of them but he does really know his Pershing.

Additional tips is playing as axis and figure out what YOU use to KILL Pershing and STAY AWAY from that ^^ And on the flip side what is it that you are really afraid of when the Pershing comes a rollin?

Me for instance it always seems to end up with fjs up against this Fing monster and as soon as it spots them they go bye bye, and more frequently then any other unit. ALSO dont try to kite inf when you DO have HVAP since HVAP = Reduced splash = next to no use against inf.

New HE sucks vs inf, BUT, it is super effective vs support weapons.

Why?

Pershing HE has same acc as normal gun.

What does that mean?

It is very likely to hit the exact point the target is(was) at, unlike the stuh.

So, against stationary weapons, pak38, mortar, hmg, it is more effective. But against inf targets, unless your at very close range, it is proboly less effective, unless your playing incompetent players.

shame they had to nerf the jackson's cannon so much. I agree to a price increase. But to nerf the cannon, may as well roll with m10s in my inf company. Shame inf company now doesnt have a pershing imitator

Yeah I meant HE rounds. They seem to one-shot paks fairly well.

Jackson nerf was terrible, made the unit useless. Was happy to lose my last vet 3 one after that nerf - hellcat spam is so much better than Jacksons.

The HE rounds P0wn!!! I use them in my armor coy, i used to run double persh, but now i run 3-4 Sherman with HE, and use them as a kind of jumbos, and then fielding lots and lots of BARS and support weapons, Sherman Blow ANY inf sky high! and the bars and support weapons take care of rest ^^

by the way this Idea was originally deployed by Kwia, and I used Enkks Ab strats to perfect it ^^
