The NZ goverment passed something or other so that they can now watch our internet usage and see what we are doing. The reason is to stop pirating and the such like. They can disable your internet and contact the copyright holder to see if they would like to take action against you to. So NZ is basically shit now.

Fortunately, its not quite that simple.

First, you need to be 'flagged' as having possible malign usage, then monitored from there.  Then, you can get warned up to 3 times before you even get charges / investigated further.

It wont stop old-school FTP downloaders like me ;p

It WILL stop all the dumb-fuck torrent users.

That's like offering Beer to fuck the fat chick. It will work for a while, but it's not gonna last. Not only that, but there is zero motivation for the Fat chick to loose weight.

Why don't you collect up your love beads and potpourri and find something constructive to do.

From a seperate article:

Quote
Who is liable?

The person named on the internet bill, not the person who physically clicks on the download icon. So mums, dads, holiday home owners, schools and universities are at risk of being pinged for their children's, guests' or students' illegal activities.

InternetNZ chief executive Vikram Kumar says the Government's approach is lazy. "Think of it like a street address. Instead of finding out who in the house has committed the crime, the blame will fall on the homeowner."
Just goes to show how ignorant and short-sighted our MPs actually are.

If a proxy can't stop someone who knows what he's doing in tracing an IP address, it surely can't stop the government.

I love how governments have yet to realize that music, movie and game piracy have only ever increased sales. (contrary to everyone saying its gonna kill the industries)

What scientific data or statistics do you have to support that argument?

Just google it tbh

or use a bit of common sense, im tired of the dumbassery of people. But its been common knowledge for a while. Because you asked the question, im pretty sure your own research skills are negligible so let me point out this, alot of mainstream media uses only data gleamed from stores (which is that cd hardcopy  data is down about 12% this year. Ignoring the nearly 30% increase in digital sales)

Clearly this means that global cooling increases piracy, which increases sales. Debunking global warming shills and corporate economists at the same time.

You have no idea how stupid the regulations are.

Its automatic, and if it cant resolve the ip accurately, it dismisses it.

Thus, proxies are the work-around.  Or spoofing, but that can be tracked back unfortunately.

Well frankly you'd think if the government was intent on enforcing a law they'd at least do it properly. Not that I support this type of law whatsoever, it could set a dangerous precedent.
