Ok, I'm trying to create a city dock-like area on a river.

I'm having trouble creating the whole "concrete edge" man made canal look that you see on a lot of maps (Coastal Harbour, Linden).

I know it's a spline, but I can't figure out what texture to use or how exactly to go about it.

EDIT: I have solved this. Epbs -> Objects -> Walls -> Supports, woo!

Any help?

Edit: Also, is it best to place bridges as objects or can you use splines for easy adjustment? They are no fun trying to get just right Tongue

Use bridges as an object.

Yeah that's what I'm currently doing. It was just difficult getting it lined up and whatnot. Should I turn off the Adjust to Terrain option to help with that?

Yes, for things like bridges and support walls, turn off align to terrain.  It is much easier to put the object where you want and then fine tune the terrain around it than vice versa

 - you can adjust the height of bridges like with any other object pressing "h" while clicking

 - support walls should be build with object-splines: spline tool
-> click the "object" box in the top
-> get the support wall from the bottom
-> "add to object list"
-> than check the box so it isnt adjusted to the terrain
-> than check the little box under "object" box at the very top and you can start building your canal

Yeah, I managed to figure it out by toying around in one of the stock maps. I'm glad I decided to tackle this stuff in my first map Tongue

May be a stupid question:
How do I place buildings outside of playable area?
I just cant move that damn city building out.
Am I going to cut the village in half??

Just right click outside of your map barrier.  Buildings can't be moved in-map when placed out of map, and vice versa.

you may not have a program that can open tga files, try getting "gimp" (just google search it) its a nice program for fixing up pictures and it can open .tga files.

as $_TEXAS_$ said, GIMP works well, it is a free open-source photoshop alternative.  Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/) can also open .tgas and do basic stuff like resizing and cropping.

Also, I'm happy to make a map loading screen for you.  You'll see my work on all the loading screens for Lolto and I as well as Abbeville Winter.  If you want me to make one, PM me one or more screenshots you want used.  Make sure they are as high-res as possible and have minimal or no UI element visible.  If you are taking the pic in worldbuilder, hide the right panel and set it to cinematic mode.  Loading screens need to be in the widescreen aspect ratio.

Hello, I don't know where to put it so I created a thread in the technical forum as well.

Quote
my problem is that whenever I try creating a new, blank map, worldbuilder closes itself and I end up on the desktop again.

This happens with both the -dev and no dev-tag.
Thanks for any help.

Not that I know of, you need to use objects/splats/splines that give red cover by default. (Mainly roads)

There may be a way to paint "red" cover, I was able to paint green cover on one of my contest maps (the method isn't like typical painting, and is rather inaccurate), I will check to see if I can get red and then edit this post.

Edit: you can get red cover by using the slpine tool, the spline tool will draw the area that you want red (it takes a little practis to get right). select any texture from "ROAD_ASPHALT" (all these have red cover, I would just use the first one). place the spline were ever you want the red cover (you can check the cover in the overview menu). after the spline is were you want it, you will want to get rid of the Asphalt texture. With the new spline selected, select "colorize" then in the new menu click "select ALL" and then lower the bar in "Alpha" to the very bottom. click "ok" and the spline will disapear, but the cover will still exist.

This isn't exactly "painting" the cover, but it works.

did someone ever think about / try something to - change the skins of buildings?

Just came to my mind.

If it would need a duplication of the buildings included in the mod files this would suck, but if we could add some extra skins to a single map, directly changing the buildings used this would be pretty nice and add a whole bunch of new experiences to our maps.
(-> german/british towns)

Someone got any idea/knowledge about this? I guess it would be a tricky combination of mod code, map scar code and extra files at least, but worth a shot, imo. (maybe someone who knows the BotB team better ask em how they do it cause i guess they dont use normandy buildings there either)
