I'd sign up if Area's proposition went through.

I was put off joining in because it'd be the typical stack battles of destiny with broken vs broken builds. It'd be interesting to watch the replays but not so much playing it.

If you don't know who you're with and against until it hits you, it becomes a lot more difficult to game it on gimmicks - Especially considering a person you've played with could now be against you.

Of course, you could still gimmick your way to greater justice, but it'd be a hell of a gamble if your team mate isn't following suit or really isn't adjusted to that style of play. Even worse, you go against the person you've just played with and they know your gimmick down to the letter. Versatile companies could survive that kind of pre-exposure with a little shake up, but for example running into a company of Bazookas/Shrecks when you've got LV spam would be... Painful.

It's a random game. Randomness in the selection process would be appealing.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

There's not gonna be any cooperation, but whatever. Do what u want. Less fun playing, less fun to watch.

Depends on what kind of tournament you want to run. If it's just a test of skill, ingenuity and preparation to find the best 2v2 team then there's no other format really, you have to let people pick their teammates and if there are a few teams better than everyone else then well that's the point really.

If you want a "fun" event where the entire community participate in then I suppose you could do random teams but then it becomes less a tournament and more a community event, which is fine if that's what you want to do. A good compromise could be the mentor tournament which has been thrown around before. Pair a good player with a worse one, give them a few weeks of mentoring and playing together and then hold the tournament. Again though it would be hard to get this going.

As for the current format, I vote round robin into double elimination knockouts.

I'll end up watching the replays anyhow regardless of how the tournament gets set up, so I'm not too fussed in the long run, lol.

Gray seriously, now there's a difference between good or bad cooperation and no cooperation.  You are assuming that just because you dont choose your teammate all of a sudden you go braindead.  Get on vent and cooperate as best you can, its really a L2P issue if you feel you cant play without that special teammate.

"Less fun" is relative and neither here nor there, so Im not sure if that holds beyond you.

With respect to Shock's comment, I think he's right: do you want a specialized tournament where the same 4-8 players are in finals, or do you want something for whole community to participate?  If you want the former I dont see why you need a tourney at all if everyone knows already who those 8 are, seems to me just make your stack battles and glory in the victory.  If you want the latter well then that requires something other than the traditional tourney format.

In addition, I dont think 2v2s exhaust "skill and ingenuity", it could be argued that random teammates are more of a test than a premade 2v2 set up.  Lastly, I dont think "fun" and "skill" are mutually exclusive.

But, if you really want to get as many people as possible involved, then you may want to consider something a bit more complicated where people sign up as individuals and you play a long series of round robins where everyone plays with, and against, everyone else, and the people with the best winning percentage can claim to be "the best" or some such.

I realize the counter argument is that EiR is a team game and I only play with people of my caliber blah blah, but I think its a better measure of "skill" if you can carry folks versus better teams.  Also, I think the difficulty in this option is the actual organization of the round robin rather than getting teams to sign up, since there is no longer a need for premade teams here, but games can also be done more flexibly since they will get completed depending on who is in launcher rather than a set schedule with set people so nothing happens in the meanwhile.

In any event, just a thought...

+1 to this

If we are really to drift that far away from a classic tournament setup then might aswell play a campaign like GC.

I think the concern of "favorites" to win could be lessened by randomizing teams each round, but what if we twist it with wins counting towards the original registered teams? Add double elimination to this and you have something.

If we can't fit EIRR into a normal platform for tournaments, let's just make our own.

I appreciate what you guys have said, but this is going to remain a tournament. The whole point of it is to prove who is the best.

I'll be sorting out a community event for you guys, don't you worry, for now, if you don't wanna play, just enjoy the experience and do me a favour and watch the shoutcasts as I do them Smiley

Anyway, this is a final bump for any last straggling teams who haven't yet signed up! clonetroopers needs a teammate or he will be removed, Nikomas you need to find a teammate also, and then sign up on the site. Graywolf, is Darsin playing still? Anybody else?

24 hours left on this, this time tomorrow I will consider sign-up closed and we will begin a group stage of the tournament, with 8 teams going through to Double Elimination.

Such silly guys, please rethink your position, I kinda need 12 teams ideally! Smiley My team is emergency only, me and Katusha won't play if there's another team willing to take the spot, don't forget clonetroopers needs a partner as well, GrayWolf I still need you to confirm your team!

Just added a new rule, it can actually go either of two ways.

The team with the fastest win gets to pick their faction for the final game, which potentially cements the better team with a strong advantage, or alternatively, (I prefer this) it's the other way around, so the team with the slowest victory gets to pick their faction for the final game, which helps out potentially the less effective team. Thoughts?
