88/MG lockdowns and other support-centric turtling is soul rending to play against. It's a slow and dull fight for each inch of ground, and you usually can't back cap it all too well as the defenders simply shift the bulk of the support weapons to compensate.

Most fun I've had in EiRR has always been when the gameplay has been fluid, not static.

I mean I know Obama was the first one in EiR to get a card. and tbfh the Race card is pretty OP. but Romney has the K.K.K., those guys seem to camo anywhere. So OP units from both sides.
At the end of the day, however, stormtroopers finally got the anal invasion with a cactus they have richly deserved for years.

Yet these builds are not very popular or common. You can't even gamble on always being on teh defense or anything like we used to have.

Doomforts going up in R/ME mode, who is to blame?

Yep camping is by far not the dominant high level meta at the moment. It's all out zerg capping from all directions with disposable inf. Very effective stuff.

Can confirm, my team won a game earlier that none of us had any expectation of even a glimmer of hope due to aggressive tactics and capping

And an 88 company is pretty useless on most maps - so it is a big risk to build one unless you can force a specific map in the launcher.

The problem is the 88, not the map.

As was stated above, the allies ended up beating the 88 anyway by adapting to the situation.

As smokaz pointed out, you had trouble because you had a one dimensional company that relied on one strategy. That goes for both the axis & the allied players.

Am I the only person that has noticed what an awesome idea it was for Nikomas to implement the map rotation?

In the history of Eir:r I have never seen such a flurry of map work being done. This map rotation has given all these maps a real opportunity to be play tested and evaluated. It has motivated the original map makers to make changes and others to volunteer to make changes.

Some may QQ about a so called map "Embargo" but this tiny few weeks of "Embargo" are resulting in an influx of quality maps.

This was one of the best decisions the Dev team has done in a long time. Thank you Nikomas for giving map testing a real opportunity. I hope you continue until all the maps have been through rotation.

sigh...... I guess if you count the one guy that started a map a few days before the rotation, then technically you would be correct.

The sudden influx of map changes, redo's and volunteers to work on other peoples map has just happened since the rotation. Hell, even pony has been inspired to fix his maps.

Elitegren bringing back his map from the grave. etc, etc......

Nope.

pony deadbolt and gelezinisvilkas all were mapping before map rotation
people mapping inspires people to map, being forced to play shitmaps does not

Not going to argue a pointless debate with you.

Mapping dies a year ago and now everyone and their dog is mapping. I suppose it has nothing to do with map rotation happening a couple weeks prior - no, that certainly could not be an influence at all.

Regardless of the reasons, we can agree that people will generally play maps in the spirit of play test if they are sure that their feedback will be acted on.

Moreover, people who are not interested in play testing will be more preferable to playing other maps if those maps are well designed to begin with. The basic criteria of a map is as stated in tank's post.

"Map must be created, or modified, with EIR gameplay in mind. (Proper sector layout, no base-building areas, etc)"

Part of the balance of any game, is partially the engine, the weapons and also the map. You can have perfect weapon balance but if the maps are poorly made, the game overall will still feel imbalanced.

Mapping is a result of a zeitgeist if you ask me. Skaffa helping me play a few games on my map and offering replays allows me to think about the problems my map had and to work on it. The map rotation helped made my map more accessible thereby letting people who otherwise did not want to download anything... play it.

It is a combination of reasons.

And the history of the past 3-4 years clearly shows that your map would have received 1 or 2 plays, heavily criticized and forever forgotten as a "shitty map I do not want to play" by pretty much the same group of people QQ about map rotation currently.

Many maps that have received 0 plays over the past 6 months have received some serious play time and many of them are being reworked as a result. This can only be a positive for the community as a whole; because we will all end up with more "better" maps to play in the future.

All it takes is for one of the people in the "I don't wanna" group to refuse to play your map in the CoH lobby and that's it. Your map never sees the light of day. The number of people in that group are always the same people and are few in numbers, but it only takes one to shut it down.

Honestly, the people QQ about map rotation are extremely short sighted. Map rotation will be the best thing this mod ever did for maps. Once the heavy work of revamping maps is complete there will be no need for a map rotation. Give it 3-4 months and we will have an awesome collection of maps.
