They're quite hard to use, yea.
You can always make a balance thread about them if you feel they're not worth the current investment

Tbh, they are great for ganking support teams and doing a bit of house clearing due to their uncanny ability to kill infantry in buildings when at point blank range.
Treat them as flame engineers that cant be used in smoke to be honest. Supporting, flanking or ambushing unit. Pretty piss poor at stand up combat.

ran a few games with the sherman 76 upgrade with reduced splash.
That thing is god awful against inf now, hardly worth even having.
Do i choose to pay 60mu for a gun that is okay against tanks and pretty bad against inf.
Or just save the money and actually kill inf with regular gun?
Since 76 has reduced usefulness why not reduce price? Even then i dont think its worth it anymore. There goes the sherman.

the sherman 76 still has its good accuracy vs infantry, which means it is still better than a stug vs infantry.
every time you fire there is a big chance you are gonna kill at least one man(25% of a squad). which is indeed more in line with the PIV.

funny thing is this is how shermans were for the longest time.
though it has been said in the past, when the upgun worked like this that the cost of the upgun is a bit too much. should be brought down imo.

Superior is a bit over the top. Now they have little chance of defending themselves against shreks. Massive nerf to shermans. If u think its fair, okay. Thought everyone was happy enough with shermans the way they were before. Never saw them spammed, too slow and expensive to and not tough enough to spam. So thought +60mu was a descent purchase for a gun that enable them to cause equal damage to a med tank while keeping the splash ability.
But coming form vCOH i thought the upgun always had less splash. So im used to it. But vCOH and EIR arent nearly the same/

er, p4's are great vs infantry and good vs tanks and have higher rof, cheap hmg, can buy skirts which takes off 10% dmg from tanks and dmg and penetration buffs. So different

There's more units in both factions than Sherman + rifles and P4 + grens, you know. The P4 is still superior in fighting rifles compared to the Sherman vs volks, and it has a better time charging down an ATG due to the P4s higher ROF(crew of ATG dies faster)

Skirts are irrelevant. Skirts are there to help you shrug off manpack AT shots. Why the hell do you even bring the skirts up, at all? Your argument about skirts makes just about as much sense as somebody complaining their sticky riflemen lose to MP40 volks. Both upgrades cost 60 munitions, why do the MP40 volks stomp the sticky riflemen?!
Seriously, you would expect an upgrade designed to make a tank better SPECIFICALLY at taking on tanks to.. you know, make the tank do better against tanks. At least that's how the logic goes, afaik.

Perhaps because grenadiers even without the shrek will lose to the BAR riflemen?
Shrek grens do usually win against vanilla riflemen, by the way. It's just not a good idea to do so because you'll definitely be taking silly losses.
